Greetings WOWGG members. It's that time again for the Rule of the Month.
I hope one of your Golfing New Year's Resolutions will be to ALWAYS post your scores on the Golf Handicap and Information Network, better known as the GHIN App, the USGA's system for managing official golf handicaps and calculating your Handicap Index. All golfers in the WOWGG should have, or be working towards, getting their Handicap Index. For new golfers, this means you must post a score for a minimum of 54 holes (Six 9 hole rounds or three 18 hole rounds or a combination of that).
To get started, you will need to get your GHIN Number. Go to our Winchester Pro Shop and ask Matt or Travis to sign you up and get your number. They can also help you load the GHIN app on your phone to make it easy to post your score right after each round. The home screen of the GHIN APP looks like attachment #1. Click on the red oval that says POST SCORE. Your next screen should look like attachment #2. The name of the course you are currently playing should pop up. Click on the name of the course. Your third screen should look like attachment #3. You will have 3 options to post a score. For beginners, I recommend posting HOLE BY HOLE. Click on that. More advanced golfers will often use HOLE BY HOLE WITH STATS. Using TOTAL SCORE is fine too. Your next screen should look like attachment #4. You will have several choices here. First select 18 holes or 9 holes depending on what you have played. Next you must select which tees you are playing. For Women here at Winchester, we play the green tees. Touch the little down arrow on the right of the screen and a menu will show up at the bottom of the screen. Scroll through the choices to find what you want. If you played the front 9, select GREEN FRONT 9. If you played the back 9, select the GREEN BACK 9. Then be sure to select the "DONE" option. The screen will now show your starting hole and score type. If you are at Winchester, it will say HOME. It will also show you the DATE PLAYED. If you are posting on the same day you played, it will be the current date. If you are posting past scores, hit the little down arrow on the right side and scroll to the correct date. The GHIN app will then scold you for not posting on the date you played. Don't take it too hard! Finally, at the very bottom of the page is the blue bubble that says HOLE BY HOLE . Touch the blue bubble.Your next screen will look like attachment #5. Use the numbers at the bottom of the screen to post a score for each hole. Just enter each number and the APP will automatically advance the cursor to the next hole. If you make a mistake, use the little "x" at the bottom right to remove the incorrect score and re-enter the correct number. Your total score will be automatically calculated. Hit the blue bubble that says POST SCORE and you are done!
As an added incentive to faithfully post your scores, the WOWGG is now awarding a prize for the most holes posted in the calendar year and that includes rounds played at any course, not just Winchester. There is one award for the 18 hole players and one award for the 9 hole players. Matt and Travis are always happy to answer questions about the APP as are any of your fellow WOWGG members and of course yours truly, Rules Chair.
See you on the course and...
GOLF ON!
